Overview of the Faculty of Engineering

The Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute was upgraded to offer Engineering Bachelor Degree Program in 1997. 

The institution started the new programs in conventional fields of engineering viz. chemical, civil, electrical,

industrial, mec-hanical engineering, computer science engineering and also non-conventional fields of technology

such as textile engineering and food technology.

In 2000, The “Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute” merged with “Bahir Dar Pedagogical College”

to form the “Bahir Dar University” an institute dedicated for higher education in science,

technology, pedagogy, agricultural, social science and humanities.

  • The Polytechnic Institute was renamed “Bahir Dar University, Engineering Faculty”.
